About Christian Purdie

I believe that photography is as much science as it is art

I’m a Las Vegas or “Sin City” local. Traveled the world and I’m still trying to find some pirates so I can check off swashbuckling from my bucket list. I love what do…. Being a Las Vegas Photographer is the perfect job!

Portraits Las Vegas

Las Vegas is one of the best cities to have portraits taken. Whether you're looking for couples, family, or individual portraits we can help you get the most creative and personalized portraits that best fit your needs.

Portraits

Portrait photography is an art that not all photographers can ace. There are tons of different tricks and ideas that photographers have tried throughout the years to make their portraits look good. Everyone is well aware of the basics, i.e., a bright smile, chin up, face 45 degrees to either side, etc. But people demand different new things. Rather than sticking to the basic portrait headshots, there are a variety of new ideas that one can try to ace the photography.

Whether you are going for a candid or a portrait, taking a close-up or capturing a far-fetched subject, it is important to adjust the camera settings accordingly. There are tons of settings and options in a professional camera that one must be able to access and understand perfectly. Not only do these options provide the photographer with perfect options to try to enhance the quality of the photograph, but they also give a completely new dimension to the same old basic photography. However, the most important thing with these settings is that people at times try to overdo the settings making the pictures look absurd. As much as it is important to give a nice new outlook to the pictures, it is also important to not overcook the quality making it look awful.

While people do suggest that taking pictures in natural light gives the best results irrespective of the subject being captured, there are certain limitations to this. While direct sunlight does provide a nice and fresh lighting effect, it is likewise bad for the skin. Especially in hot summers when the sun is shining bright over your head, it is not good for the photographer as well as the subject to take clicks. In such cases, the use of blinds and windows in order to limit the effects of the sun must be considered. Limiting the sunlight to a reasonable extent helps in getting the perfect portrait shots for the subject. In addition to this, it also assists in reducing the overall cost of the props as no artificial light will be used for the shoot.

Although portrait photography is majorly about shooting from the right angle with the right lighting making the right pose, a little innovation is always encouraged. To get rid of the same old simplistic modes of photography on eye-level with the subject, nowadays photographers are trying out different elevations and demotions to try out new portrait modes. These new headshots not only provide a new dimension to portrait photography but give a variety of options for the photographer and subject to choose from. Similarly, it is not always essential that the subject needs to be 100% ready for the portrait shot while having a shoot. At times, it is better to catch out the subject of the photograph with a candid shot. Random shots can really bring out the real expressions of the person!

Portrait

While we did discuss that it is important to not overdo the camera settings as it destroys the essence of the image, a photographer can always experiment beforehand to try and get a unique shot. Exposure is one of the delicate settings that can act as a make or break for your photography. While overexposure of any photograph is considered to be completely useless, at times it can add flair to the picture itself. Overexposed images at times try to eliminate all the little flaws from the photograph making it look perfect. However, one must make sure to try and test it based on the complexion of the subject as overdoing it may destroy the image overall.

The key to master the art of portrait photography is to try and use different props during the shoot. The critical decision is to make sure that the props being used go in line with the event being covered. Trust me, no one would want to have sober props at a birthday party. The best part about Las Vegas Portrait Photography is that the team has a wide range of props, from birthdays to weddings, hence people can utilize any prop they like and have the best shots taken. As Instagram, Snapchat, and other social media applications have been increasingly popular over the years, photographers have tried to incorporate these props in their shoot. Hence, whenever you try for a shoot, make sure you use the props wisely.

Some people might not be very well aware of this, but photographers have a very wide range of lenses with them. They have wide angle lenses, macro lenses, standard lenses, etc. The key decision that one has to make however is what kind of lenses would suit the shoot best. Hence, it is important to try and test different lenses in order to ensure that once the shoot begins, you do not face any mishaps.

Studio Portrait Photographer

Always, it is the right moment for a classic. A portrait should tell a story about the person or people in the photograph. Working as a portrait photographer in Las Vegas, Christian has contributed to developing a portable studio to bring studio-quality lighting directly to our clients. Studio-quality lighting, like rim, split, loop, and Rembrandt are brought to any location of our client’s choosing. There’s a reason why these lighting techniques have been used since the beginning of photography and now with the latest technology, high-speed strobes, carbon fiber light stands, and wireless triggers studio lighting can be taken to any location.

Creative Portrait Photographer: Studio Portrait Photographers normally have a traditional background inside of a room. We bring our studio to our client’s homes or outdoor locations of their choice. When shooting studio portraits inside of our client’s home we offer the convenience of not having to travel to a photography studio. Change of clothes, make-up touch-ups, and minor tweaks can be done on-sight, conveniently. This allows us to be creative portrait photographers since we’re not having to waste time with minor changes while we’re shooting giving us more time to concentrate on our clients.

Stylistic Photographers: Simplistic and tasteful in style, our portraits reproduce a client’s authentic self. We create artwork that people are proud to hang on their living room walls that come from one powerful image. Being studio portrait photographers who are very talented with an eye for natural creativity and design and the convenience of studio lighting brought directly to our clients.

Positive Experience: We strive to create an energetic, fun, and positive experience for all of our clients. We want them to remember the photo session every time they see the photograph on the walls of their home. We are masters of lighting and understand our equipment very well, which allows us to concentrate on the most important part of each session. Our clients!

Close Up Portrait Photographer

Most portraits that you see are full-body either with an individual or a group. A close-up portrait photographer can have more impact on the actual portrait by taking a “slice” of someone and telling a full story. Our close-up portrait photographers share a good relationship with our clients. It takes a great deal of trust between a photographer and a client. Close-up portraits are a detail of a person and our lenses can produce a great amount of detail. It’s a little naked for someone to get a close-up portrait.

Details: Details, details, details… We are experts at lighting. Small adjustments, fine-tune lighting, attention to skin tone, makeup, and other details. With close-up portraits, each part of the frame is important. Each inch of the frame has to be filled with only information that is relevant to the purpose of the portrait.

Lighting: Close-up portrait photography is all about the lighting. We normally use a softer style of light. Light similar to that you would see in traditional portrait paintings. Soft light is fantastic to bring out the details of the subject, but not over exaggerate wrinkles or harshness of skin.

Capturing Intimate Moments: Most people aren’t’ comfortable with lights and a giant camera with a huge lens bearing down on them. It’s a little unsettling and can be an intimidating experience. We’ve been doing this for decades and creating an environment.

Editing: Nothing leaves our shop without editing. Close-up portraits take a little bit longer to edit, because of the amount of detail in every part of the frame. Although our normal turnaround time is 48 hours the editing to close up portraits takes a little more time and some client collaboration.

Close-up portraits need to tell a story, a story about who you are, what you’re about.

Modern Portrait Photographer

All portraits should tell a small story about the person or people that are having their portrait taken. The days of going into a studio, standing in a line in front of a boring background are gone. As a modern portrait photographer, I want to tell the story of my clients, share a moment, show the love that families share for each other. Most of our family portrait photographer sessions are done in our client’s homes or a location near their home. Being masters of lighting we use and light the environment to help say something about the people that we’re photographing.

Whether you are looking for something slightly out of the box or even a traditional family portrait photography session, we’re modern portrait photographers and have added a fashion style to our family portraits.

Fashion: We’ve been fashion photographers for decades and started combining a fashion style portrait to all of our family portrait sessions. It creates a more unique portrait, and our clients love the final product.

Modern: Our mobile photography studio is a fantastic way of creating the best modern family portraits, which in turn, you can use in the suitability of your office, home, or any location of your choice. We bring studio-quality lighting directly to our client’s homes or the locations of their choosing.

Portraits: All portraits should say something about the people that are in them. They should share a little bit of intimacy with the rest of the world. Some families are energetic, some are goofy, while others are reserved. Your portrait should tell that story about you.

Modern portrait photographers take photos of people showing their feelings and emotion and use the environment to help clients express themselves while capturing a moment in time. Traditional portrait photographers use a more old-school style of portrait photography to give clients a relatively static portrait.

Portrait Photographer for Social Media

Our clients will choose the best photo from the session and order prints to hang on the walls of their home, but what do they do with the other photos that they loved from our session? If we wanted to continue to shoot family portraits we understood that we are portrait photographers for social media. Who doesn’t love to share fantastic photos of themselves sharing great moments with the people in their life that they love?

Digital Download: We created a simple to use, easy to download online ordering system to allow our clients to directly download images without a watermark directly. No need to install any software, download a client, have a Gmail account. You simply log into your gallery, select the images that you like, and click download.

Instagram: Being an Instagram photographer has thick competition. You can’t just take a well-lit photo. Instagram is full of those. You have to capture something special, something unique. Our Instagram influencer clients normally hire us for a half or full-day photo session so they can make the most out of their time in Las Vegas.

LinkedIn: Who doesn’t need a current profile photo? LinkedIn is a great platform for networking As LinkedIn headshot photographers we understand that your headshot is your brand and you want to represent your brand in the best possible manner.

Online Dating: A decade ago people were embarrassed to say that they met online. Today more and more people are using dating websites and apps to meet that special someone in their lives. Being an online dating photographer is a little like being a fashion photographer and a portrait photographer at the same time. You need the portrait style of photography to tell a small story about someone and a fashion style of photography to give a little attitude.

Working as a portrait photographer for social media is a great job. We help people update their profiles, post awesome content, and potentially help them to find that special someone in their life.
